Should I submit this editorial to my school paper, or is the point too abstract?

Do you guys like my story?
It’s just the prologue, I haven’t much else to it. But it’s about an ancient Night Fairy who is banished from her village. Once, she was a village elder, a trainer of war. Now she is a a wanderer, looking for the one thing that stops her from freeing her mind. King Lathurus, better known as Overlord Draker. She sets out for many years until she finally tracks him down in the most unbelievable place ever, North Crest High, in Texas. She enrolls as Andy McClader, hoping her unchanging looks won’t throw the King off. After an excruciating corse as Draker’s fried, she must kill him. But after seeing his good side, does she have it in her, or will she fall victim to his evil spell, and be everything her village thought of her?

As the black skies evened out, I saw the causalities of my soldiers, the beautiful creatures adorned from the seeds of nature, dead. I rushed to their aide, the spindle blue fibers flowing out of my fingers, trying to revive their glowing bodies, but there was no such luck. I watched as the army of undead waddled back to King Lathurus, The unholy Kind of Blackwater. The shadow of death loomed over to my side, the alliance, sucking the souls out of my people. It was horrible to watch, to know that I let my kingdom down, and let the horrible King live on. It was like ripping out my eternal heart, and throwing it into a tank full of piranas, utterly painful. I stood up, my eyes aching with Mother Natures tears, my heart beating for the soldiers. Hundreds, and hundreds of dead bodies, and I couldn’t do one thing. I walked away with my head hanging, the distant chuckle of the King filling my ears, and pouring me into a cocoon of darkness.
"Andella! How could you!" Moon shouted at me, I lowered my head, her powerful rage cutting through me like knives. I let a sullen tear fall down my cheek, and I suddenly grew worried. I felt a sharp, slender hand collapse on my cheek, and I screamed out in pain. "You think a sorrow filled tear is going to get you out of this. Now, I’ve stuck up for you in this village, but this is the last time. I’m sorry Andella, but your time in Grabnum has come to an end. You’ve disappointed us once again, and you have to give us eternity before you are allowed back." Moon uttered, and I stormed out, not knowing where to go, but letting my rage take me there. I ran a hand threw my pixie hair, the short wisps of milky white hair lightly falling in my eyes. I let my anger out on a nearby saber tooth tiger, stabbing it so that his heart ceased to beat. I let out my sorrow on him, everything inside of me, was then centered around this dead animal. I knew I couldn’t of lived like this, so rogue, so untrained. I had spent most of my life learning of teamwork, but now all of that seemed minimal. For I was alone, nearing Enemy territory. I was a lost soul, a lost cause, and I knew my Kingdom wouldn’t let me back. Then, as I saw the first unread soldier, something clicked inside of me, my mind reeling on what I had done, and a way to fix all of it.
"I’ll show you." I muttered to myself, hoping someone was nearby, alive that is, to hear me telling the God’s of my epiphany. "I’ll find the King, and I will kill him. Painfully, slowly, for all the lives he has took. For all the family members he has disembodied. I will hurt him so much that he feels the souls of all the true beings rip away from him, leaving him empty and alone. Just as he has done to me." I finished, running off towards the Fressil mountains, a victories smile spread across my chapped white lips, as I looked down upon my village. "I will save them from the impending doom that has escaped my grasp, I will not let them die." I whispered sending my thoughts away with the wind, carrying them to the nearest sentinel of Fressil, hoping he’d deliver my message. And with that I ran, ran so fast, and far that I lost track of time. Ran so far, and fast that I lost myself many a miles back. I would never stop, not until the only man who has ruined me is dead.

Can we use a rock from my backyard for my red ear slider or is it contaminated by outside creatures/bugs?
I went to let my dog out today and looked down…I saw a huge rock that would be perfect for him. If I make a second area for him to swim/play in (like my other question)….could I use that rock? Like say in the kiddy pool in the summer?
If you must use a rock, scrub it well. Then boil it or bake it in the oven. Let it cool slowly before you try to handle it. And be certain that the rock is stable enough that the turtle cannot topple it over on himself.

You will have to scrub it with a stiff brush to remove dirt and debris. I put rocks from outside in my turtle tanks and they never got sick from them. One concern would be pesticides.

I would imagine you could if you at the very least washed it first. I would suggest putting it under some hot, running water for three minutes with a little bit of soap it you like. Just make sure you get all the soap off before putting it in with your slider.

Repubs, will a win in 2010 be longterm, or similar to the events that followed 1994?
The midterms take place on November second, so this is assuming that the political tide does not change in the nine months between now and the big day. But, if current polls prove correct, republicans will gain, probably not a majority, but will gain. Here’s step by step what I think will happen. It’s ultimately a repeat of the 90s
1. The democrats either lose control (Probably not) or lose enough seats that their simple majority can’t overcome a filibuster without a decent handful of republicans joining them. Obama, like Clinton, will do this. He moves toward the center, knowing the republicans will never do the same. Since most americans are in the middle, Obama will be able to then paint himself as a moderate while painting republicans as radicals. It worked for Clinton, and history repeats itself. Many republicans have said that Obama is too liberal to do anything in the center, but that’s just underestimating a president’s will to be re-elected. Rest assured Obama will do what he has to do.
2. This balance of power will ultimatly result in the republicans shutting down the government. They did that twice in 1995. Obama, like Clinton, will have moved more toward the center, and, like the 90s, the public will blame congress, not the president, for the standstill. Just as they did in the 90s, the republicans will figure, if you can’t beat him, then half-heartedly join him while hoping for an excuse to impeach him.
3. Health care, in 2012, is a dead issue. Either it will pass in 2010 by compromising with a few decent republicans, or the right will once again obstruct reform. So, in 2012, it either died as an issue, or passed but hasn’t taken effect yet, and is a non-issue. Also, due to the rollercoaster that is the economy, recessions following expansions, and expansions following recessions, it is only natural pattern that the economy will be solid again by the election of 2012. Incumbent presidents don’t lose with a strong economy. Also, Iraq withdrawal is set to be complete by summer of this year, and likewise afghanistan by summer of 2011, so for the 2012 election, the nation will not be at war, ergo no divisive foreign policy dominating the campaign. So 2012, strong economy, no war or HC debate, didn’t the election of 1996 have a similar issueless campaign with an outcome not in your favor, republicans?
4. These events will cause democrats to gain seats for the next few elections. Following 1994, these exact events led democrats to gain in congress 1996, 1998, and 2000
5. And God help you if you try to impeach him. Is your buddy Kenneth Star about to be called in for another try?

If your point is that politically, it led to the Democrats getting back in power, you might be right. If you mean that the Republicans were not effective in doing something positive for the country, you’re wrong. Let’s not forget that healthcare reform came thanks to that Republican Congress.

They lost touch with their original message of limiting government, and such, and became government growing, self empowering, greedy, power mongering, Washington elitists. IMDB rating: 5.90 Plot: A cop who answers a call is ambushed. The next day he is buried. But in reality he is in a hospital and his appearance has been altered. He is then told by a man named McCleary that he now belongs to “them”. “Them” being CURE an organization whose job is to battle corruption. They give him the new name of Remo Williams. He then meets the head of CURE Harold Smith, who spends most of his time sitting in front of a copmuter and perusing over reports of individuals that have to be dealt with. They then give him to Chiun, a Shinanju master, which is the art of killing someone and making it seem like an accident or natural causes. Chiun’s regimen is hard on him. Smith then discovers a man named Grove, who is a defense contractor. It seems that whenever there’s a case against him, the key witnesses and investigators disappear. Currently a military investigator is pursuing him about his new project which for some reason, he is tight lipped about. Smith sends McCleary and Remo to help her but Grove discovers them and wanting to know about them decides to stir things up. He sends some people to take Remo out but he outwits them. And when he tells Smith about it, Smith doesn’t care who then tells him that unless they have more evidence against Grove they can’t do anything and if they are about to be exposed, they have to disappear. And while Smith and McCleary have made arrangements for their demise, Remo is told that Chiun will take him out. So he and McCleary have to get the evidence they need. |

Chun was more adept with his abilities. What did Miyagi teach the Karate Kid? "Wax on Wax off". Chun and Remo were able to do a whole lot more while blindfolded. The Karate Kid was able to stand like a dork, er, a crane, and kick-whoo hoo. Chun was capable of a lot of things and taught Remo far more than Miyagi could. Besides, Chun is just cooler!

is perish the right word to use in these two sentences? English question?
sentence1: My passion for music perished with time.
sentence2: My ambition to become a musician perished with time.
I want to ask native speakers, is the use of perish in these two sentences correct? Does my sentence sound right with perish used to indicate the disappearance of my passion or ambition,

It isn’t the normal way you would hear it, but I suppose it isn’t incorrect.
Perish is normally used to explain a physical reaction, not an emotional or mental one.
Such as; Living things left alone with no water will perish.
I think "depleted" would sound more natural.
sentence1: My passion for music DEPLETED with time.
sentence2: My ambition to become a musician DEPLETED OVER time.
That sounds like a more natural way to say those. "with" can be replaced by "over" in both sentences, either way is fine, but "over time" is said more often than "with time" in the dialect I was raised with.

Yes, perished is the correct word in both sentences. You can however use other words such as disappeared, dwindled, ceased, departed, vanished.

Perish is usually used when something passes especially in a violent or untimely manner. Some authors may use the word just to show how much passion they may have had for something or how they felt when something they had was lost. You can perish in an earthquake. His valuable paintings perished in the fire. You can use it for something that has disappeared or pass on like a time of peace perished with war. Or a time of value and morals perished with etc…..

You really wouldn’t use the word "perish" in that context. "Perished" is basically just a fancy way of saying "died" - usually by unexpected violence (as in a fire). So, though there isn’t anything technically wrong grammatically or syntactically, it’s simply not the way a native speaker would express the concepts in your example.
Some better choices in either sentence might be "diminished"
"dwindled"
"dissolved"
or simply "faded".

There was a guy in mw2 in afghan and i had his head right in line with my sniper , i shot but he survived!! And i shot him another 3 times in case i missed but he still survived! he wasnt disconnecting becos he was shooting at the time and moved straight after that. Wtf happened? No that problem happens alot… the physics are still not that great so if you shoot at the head you will most likely hit the chest. For example throwing a knife at someone will only hit the body or head.
